City Code – Section 3, Article 4

Administrative Regulation #1 (Ref. Code 3-404)

Pit Bull Dog is defined to mean:

ü      Bull Terrier breed of dog

ü      Staffordshire Bull Terrier breed of dog

ü      American Pit Bull Terrier breed of dog

ü      American Staffordshire Terrier breed of dog

ü      Dogs of mixed breed or of other breeds than above listed, which breed or mixed breed is known as pit bulls, pit bull dogs or pit bull terriers.

ü      Any dog which has the appearance and characteristics of being predominantly of the breeds of bull terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire terrier; any other breeds commonly known as pit bulls, pit bull dogs or pit bull terriers; or a combination of any of these breeds.

3-404.           PIT BULL PROHIBITIONS.

It shall be unlawful to keep, harbor, own or in any way possess within the corporate limits of the city any pit bull dog as defined by administrative regulation; provided that pit bull dogs properly registered with the city by March 1, 1988, and kept within the city continuously since that time, may remain within the city subject to the requirements set forth in section 3-406 of this article.

 

6.20.010     Keeping of wild or exotic animals.

A.  It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to keep, maintain or have in his or her possession or under his or her control within the city any wild or exotic animal as previously defined or any poisonous reptile or any other dangerous, wild or exotic animal or reptile, any vicious or dangerous propensities. 

B.  It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to keep, maintain or have in his or her possession or under his or her control within the city any of the following animals:

     1.  All poisonous animals including rear-fang snakes;

     2.  Apes: chimpanzees; gibbons; gorillas; orangutans; and siamangs;

     3.  Baboons;

     4.  Badgers;

     5.  Bears;

     6.  Bison;

     7.  Bobcats;

     8.  Cheetahs;

     9.  Crocodilians, thirty (30) inches in length or more;

    10.  Constrictor snakes;

    11.  Coyotes;

    12.  Deer; includes all members of the deer family, for example, white-tailed deer, elk, antelope and moose;

    13.  Elephants;

    14.  Game cocks and other fighting birds;

    15.  Hippopotami;

    16.  Hyenas;

    17.  Iguana;

    18.  Jaguars;

    19.  Leopards;

    20.  Lions;

    21.  Lynxes;

    22.  Monkeys;

    23.  Ostriches;

    24.  Pumas; also known as cougars, mountain lions and panthers;

    25.  Raccoons;

    26.  Rhinoceroses;

    27.  Scorpions;

    28.  Skunks;

    29.  Tigers;

    30.  Wolves.
