Chapter 5.12 MERCHANT POLICE SERVICES
5.12.010 Definitions.
The following words and phrases when used in this chapter shall have the
meaning, unless the context clearly indicates a different meaning, respectively
ascribed to them as follows:
"Firearm" means any pistol or revolver
commonly referred to as a handgun, capable of being loaded with gunpowder or
other explosive substances, cartridges, shots, slugs or balls and being
exploded, fired or discharged.
"License" means a certificate granting
permission for a person to operate a merchant police service.
"Merchant
police officer" means any individual who is now or hereafter employed by a
merchant police service to guard, watch, patrol or otherwise attempt to provide
security for the real or personal property of another person.
"Merchant
police service" means any person now or hereafter engaged for hire in the
business of guarding, watching, patrolling or otherwise attempting to provide
security for the real or personal property of another person.
"Permit"
means a certificate granting permission for an individual who is now or
hereafter employed by a merchant police service to operate as a merchant police
officer, who is twenty-one (21) years of age. Permits shall be issued by
licensed merchant police service.
"Person" means any individual,
proprietorship, partnership, association, firm, corporation or other business
