15.20.080 Service entrances.

Rules and regulations pertaining to service entrance for electrical wiring shall be as follows:

A. Service entrance wiring, except that of a temporary nature, shall be run in approved rigid conduit or electrical metallic tubing having an interior diameter of not less than three-fourths inch or with approved service entrance cable, with approved service heads or conduit fittings on their exterior terminals. The service entrance shall be continuous from the service head to the entrance switch box except for meter case or enclosure. All service entrance cables shall be fused before entering any combustible wall or partition, into the braker box, a distance no greater than the thickness of the wall.

B. Each set of service entrance conductors shall have a disconnecting means located in a readily accessible space. The disconnecting means shall consist of not more than six switches or six circuit breakers per building.

C. All service entrances shall be installed only by or under the direction of the master electrician.

D. The length of an unfused run of an electrical service entrance from the conduit fitting to the entrance switch shall not exceed fifteen (15) feet except where unusual local conditions indicate the desirability of exceeding this limit and the length of such run may be extended upon special permission granted in writing by the electrical inspector. E. The minimum voltage, number of conductors and ampacity for residential service shall conform to the following requirements:

1. 120/240 volts, three-wire single phase -- one hundred (100) amperes (24 KVA);

2. 120/240 volts, three-wire single phase -- fifty-five (55) amperes (13.2 KVA);

3. 120/208 volts, four-wire three-phase -- fifty-five (55) amperes (19.8 KVA).

F. No panel board or switch box shall be installed within three feet of an indoor gas meter. (Ord. G-770 § 2 (part), 1993: prior code § 5-408)
