Outdoor Educational Center

The OEC is currently being used as an outdoor classroom to help further educate our children in various methods of recycling, composting and conserving natural resources.

The City of El Dorado has an ever-growing recycling and composting program. It is the feeling of city staff that being one of the first in the area to construct an Outdoor Educational Center will help do an even better job of teaching our school children the importance of composting and recycling in their everyday lives.

The Outdoor Education Center was funded through a Kansas Department of Health and Environment Solid Waste Competitive Plan Implementation Grant in 1999. The project took a little over a year to complete and was one of the first in the state.

The final touches were put on when the five local elementary schools helped construct and fill flower beds in the first section of the project.
