Summer Art FOCUS2019-06-27T13:00:00Foster creativity and innovation in your Middle Shool student at the Coutts Museum of Art’s Summer Art FOCUS! This two week class will be held from 1:00pm -4:00pm, Mondays-Fridays, from June 17-28, 2019. This class is open to students who will be entering 6th-8th grade for the 2019-2020 school year.
Retired teacher and artist, John Simkins, will lead students in developing their creativity using various artistic mediums. Each day the students will begin class developing their observation and drawing skills through various studies. In the first week, students will cover clay sculpting, acrylic painting, and collage. In the second week, they will practice studio and portrait photography and printmaking, specifically lithography. On the last day a small exhibit and reception will be held to show their finished work.
This two week class will cost $65 to cover costs of supplies during the class in addition to supplies that the students can take home after the class has finished.

Dr Jay Price -Lecture Series The Road to Ivanpah 2019-06-27T17:30:00 A native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Jay M. Price directs the Public History Program at Wichita State University. His publications include Gateways to the Southwest: The Story of Arizona State Parks, Wichita, 1860-1930, Wichita's Legacy of Flight, and El Dorado!: Legacy of an Oil Boom. He and his students recently completed a history of the Cherokee Outlet Land Rush of 1893. He recently worked with a local public television station to turn his history of the El Dorado oil boom into a documentary. His other writings include works on local history, the history of tourism, regional identity, and American sacred architecture. A member of the Kansas Humanities Council speakers bureau and board of trustees, he has delivered the talks, "Reading Roadside Kansas," and "Sacred Landscapes of Kansas." Currently, his main project is "Temples for a Modern God," a study of mid-twentieth century sacred architecture.
